Danger of focusing ‘too’ much on regrets

So, we’ve talked about the reality of having regrets, and how this (in my opinion) is a natural part of life, but what happens when we focus ‘too’ much on our regrets, and past mistakes?

  • Fear
  • Depression
  • Overwhelming sadness
  • Feelings of hopelessness
  • Lost desire to try again…. (just to name a few)

When considering the issue of regret it’s important to have a healthy balance, so if you are thinking about what you may have done wrong, or mistakes you’ve made along the way in life, remember to also think about the things you’ve done well, and the things that make you proud.

As much as acknowledging our regrets is important to making better choices in the future, having a ‘healthy relationship’ with our regret will help protect us from becoming ‘overcome’ by our past mistakes.

No one is perfect, no matter how hard you try mistakes and wrong choices are bound to happen, but do yourself a favour.  Don’t focus ALL your energies thinking about your regrets.  Acknowledge them; Determine what you’re going to do different to not repeat the same mistake twice; and Move on!!!
